Basic Acoustic Materials for Recording Studios
According to the three core acoustic elements, studio acoustic materials are divided into three categories: sound insulation, sound absorption, and diffusers, with different materials for different positions and functions.
1. Sound Insulation Materials (Sound insulation & anti-vibration)
- Damped sound insulation board
Principle: Increases wall density, blocks airborne sound, and reduces vibration transmission.
Applications: Studio partition walls, ceiling base, door and window reinforcement. - Sound insulation cotton / felt
Principle: Porous structure absorbs airborne sound; damping layer blocks vibration noise.
Applications: Wall cavity filling, floor insulation, pipe wrapping. - Professional soundproof doors & windows / sealing strips
Principle: Multi-layer structure + full sealing to eliminate sound leakage.
Applications: Studio entrance door, windows, ventilation openings.
2. Sound Absorption Materials (Control reverb & clear sound)
- Acoustic foam / polyester fiber absorption panels
Principle: Porous structure absorbs mid-high frequency sound and reduces reflections.
Applications: Main reflection walls, behind monitoring position, side walls. - Bass traps (low-frequency absorbers)
Principle: Absorbs low-frequency standing waves to solve muddy low end.
Applications: Room corners, wall bottoms. - Fabric acoustic soft packages
Principle: Decoration + mid-high frequency absorption for better acoustics.
Applications: Studio feature wall, non-critical reflection areas.
3. Diffusers (Uniform sound field & anti-standing waves)
- 2D / 3D diffusion panels
Principle: Irregular geometry scatters sound for even sound field.
Applications: Rear wall, ceiling, large blank walls. - Irregular acoustic diffusion modules
Principle: Multi-angle diffusion eliminates sound focusing and standing waves.
Applications: Large studios, around instrument recording areas.
